How to Rotate Pixel Art Without It Getting Stuttery
Rotate tool in 2.10 blurring layers
Has anyone else encountered an consequence where rotating a layer in 2.10 (using Windows 7 if that helps) ends up blurring the layer quite significantly? Obviously this means that 2.10 is currently unusable for me unless I tin find a fix, which is a shame because otherwise I retrieve information technology'southward amazing.

Things change. In Gimp 2.eight I had Sinc(Lanczos3) set as default. Gone in Gimp 2.x and replaced by
NoHalo method when you do non reduce the size much (rotate, shear or something)
LoHalo method: when you downscale an image thats less than a half of the original size

All the transform tools (Except Move & Flip) accept to interpolate pixels. This will always dethrone the image (fifty-fifty if some interpolation algorithms are better than others). This is more visible on abrupt edges of text and logos(*). Degradation is cumulative, if you chain several such transforms the final event can exist blurry (which is one of the purposes of the new "Unified transform tool"; you lot can practise all the transformation in one call, so at that place will be simply i unmarried interpolation).
(*) Because the edges are made of anti-aliasing pixels. And the interpolation of the anti-aliasing pixels past a given transform doesn't produce exactly the anti-aliasing pixels for the tranrformed edge. This is besides why, when working with text and logos, it is better to apply the tools to the *path* and so redraw/pain the logo/text using the transformed path.

Thanks. I simply used the text as an example to prove it up, I was actually working on a photo when I commencement noticed it. I tried both of these but it does not piece of work.
In fact it'south made the blurriness worse.
Am I doing something wrong?
All I practice is rotate an image and it blurs out of control each time. Until reading this thread I have never touched the rotate settings. Using NoHalo blurred it more than Cubic (default), and LoHalo was 10x worse mistiness.
Use whatever is applicative to the blazon of image you are adjusting. Give some details of what y'all are doing. Information technology does not work will never get you anywhere.
Very small-scale images for example might be amend with cubic or even linear. Pixel Art perhaps None.

Each time I rotate a layer it becomes more than blurred. The corporeality I rotate does non seem to impact how much information technology blurs.
I'k completely new to gimp. I don't know what I'm doing really.
The just time I altered the Rotate settings was to modify the settings as suggested above.
- Interpolation was changed from Cubic (the default) to NoHalo (which simply fabricated the blur worse when I rotate a layer) and then to LoHalo (which made the mistiness way way worse when I rotate the layer)
- If I change back to Cubic it just every bit bad as it was originally.
Once more, new to this, and so I have no thought if there are any other details needed to understand the situation.
I accept noticed that the aforementioned thing happened on a telephone app I in one case used IbisPaint X, but I assumed it was due to it being a phone app.
All I know is everyone I enquire tells me its some other thing that causes it, just and so far nothing I take been told works.
