My vehicle was recently recalled by the manufacturer. The local dealership says the vehicles where to be brought in and that they would provide a rental car for me. Ok, I got the rental however the guy at the rental car place says that their's no insurance coverage. Is the insurance coverage for your replacement vehicle not supposed to be provided by the auto manufacturer as they where the ones that where negligent causing the car to need repairs? Please share your opinions, comments, thoughts, e.t.c |

It's up to the manufacturer and/or dealer, there is no obligation to provide a rental. My dealer does offer them free for warranty or recall work, but I have to pay the insurance if I want it. |

Your vehicle insurance covers it. I just put mine into shop and drive rental. Called Safeco, they confirmed. Rental guy simply is trying to upsell you. It does not matter what you drive, loaner, rental, friend's car or your car. Insurance goes with you. |

I got rear-ended by a gal a couple years ago, rendering my car inoperable for a month or more. The gal's insurance company told me they'd pay for a rental, but when I went to pick it up I discovered than my insurance, because I didn't have the rental clause on it, would not cover "loss of use" for the agency. In other words, they could charge me the rental rate for every day that the rental was out of service being repaired. I can't recall the amount this loss of use insurance would have cost me, but it wasn't cheap. I opted to take the chance rather than pay for the insurance. That reminds me, I've got to get my insurance changed so it pays for that! I didn't used to need it because I always had a spare vehicle. No longer.... |

And now, if you have an accident, you get to pay the total cost of repairs to the rental car. Or if a tree falls on it in your yard.. Or some kids decide to go around the neighborhood with a can of spray paint. Call your insurance company and activate the rental coverage while you have the rental. Or don't come back here crying if something happens. $10 is better than $15k. |

You better check your coverage, as what you may be referring to is that you rejected rental coverage - meaning that your insurance won't supply you a rental on their dime if you have an accident. |

Please share your opinions, comments, thoughts, e.t.c Most insurance policies are written so that when your car is in the shop and you are using a car you are covered under your existing policy. The language that appears in the policy is a "temporary, substitute, vehicle" is covered. My advice is check with your agent. Ask him. He can tell you whether I am correct or not. However, if you are covered there is no reason to buy separate rental car coverage. |

My agent at State Farm used to say that too, but the rental agencies recently started to charge for "lost rental time" which is not covered by normal policies. My agent recommends the rental insurance now, because without it, you are on the hook for what that car would have rented for while it's in the shop. https://www.usatoday.com/story/trave...-use/92878126/ |

I'd say you are on your own. Not every dealer offers rentals. I've had warranty repairs and recalls and pretty split on whether a rental was provided to me or not. While my insurance covers rentals, it's still more cost effective if I just got the dealer's rental even if I had to pay for the insurance. Alternative is go get your own rental, pay for that and insurance and setting up the pick-up/drop-off time. How much we talking here? $20? |
